About Annual Exam

Your annual well-woman exam is one of the most important steps you can take for your health. At Garden OB/GYN, our providers perform comprehensive annual exams that go beyond a simple checkup. We screen for conditions like cervical cancer, breast abnormalities, sexually transmitted infections, and hormonal imbalances — all in a comfortable, judgment-free environment. Regular annual exams help catch health issues early when they're most treatable.

What to Expect

Your visit will include a complete physical examination, pelvic exam, breast exam, and a review of your medical history. Depending on your age and risk factors, your provider may recommend a Pap smear, HPV test, STI screening, or blood work. This is also an opportunity to discuss birth control options, fertility concerns, menstrual irregularities, or any other health questions you may have. Most visits last 30-45 minutes.

Who Is It For

All women ages 13 and older should have an annual gynecological exam. Regular visits are essential for maintaining reproductive health and catching potential issues early, regardless of whether you are sexually active.

Annual Exam — Common Questions

How often should I get an annual exam?

We recommend a well-woman exam once per year, even if you're feeling healthy. Preventive care is the best way to stay ahead of potential health issues.

Do I need a Pap smear every year?

Current guidelines recommend Pap smears every 3 years starting at age 21, or every 5 years with HPV co-testing starting at age 30. Your provider will recommend the right schedule for you.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your insurance card, a list of current medications, and any health questions you'd like to discuss. If you're a new patient, arrive 15 minutes early to complete paperwork.

Is the exam painful?

Annual exams should not be painful. You may experience mild discomfort during the pelvic exam, but our providers are gentle and will talk you through each step.
