What to Expect
During a prenatal ultrasound, you'll lie comfortably while a technician applies gel to your abdomen and uses a transducer to create images of your baby. The procedure is painless and typically takes 20-30 minutes. For gynecological ultrasounds, a transvaginal approach may be used for more detailed imaging of the uterus and ovaries. Your provider will review the results with you and discuss any findings.

2D provides flat, cross-sectional images used for medical evaluation. 3D creates still three-dimensional images of your baby. 4D shows real-time 3D movement.
Do I need a full bladder?
For early pregnancy and some pelvic ultrasounds, a full bladder can improve image quality. Your provider will give you specific preparation instructions.
