Your baby at 12 weeks

Your baby is about the size of a lime now, and reflexes are coming online. Tiny fingers may curl and open, the toes can flex, and the brain is forming new cells at a remarkable pace. Vital organs are formed and beginning to function, with the kidneys starting to produce urine.

Your body this week

As you near the end of the first trimester, many people find nausea and fatigue start to ease, though it is completely normal if they linger a little longer. You may notice your waistband feeling snug as your uterus grows up out of your pelvis. Increased blood flow can leave your skin looking a bit flushed or give you that pregnancy glow.

Tips for week 12

If you have not already, this is a good time to schedule your first trimester screening or genetic testing if you and your provider have discussed it. Keep up with prenatal vitamins and sip water throughout the day to support your growing blood volume. Gentle movement like walking can help with energy and digestion.
