Your baby at 19 weeks
Your baby is roughly the size of an heirloom tomato and is now coated in vernix, a waxy, protective layer that shields the delicate skin from the surrounding fluid. The senses are developing quickly, with areas of the brain dedicated to smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch taking shape. Movements are becoming more frequent and noticeable.
Your body this week
You may feel more regular movement as your baby grows more active. Round ligament pain, occasional dizziness, and skin changes such as darkening of certain areas are all common and normal. Some people notice their hair feeling fuller or their nails growing faster thanks to pregnancy hormones.
Tips for week 19
Wearing supportive, comfortable clothing and shoes can help as your body continues to change. Keep up with balanced meals and prenatal vitamins, paying attention to calcium and iron. If you have questions before or after your anatomy scan, jot them down so you can talk them through with your provider.
