Your baby at 24 weeks
This is an important milestone week, as your baby's lungs are developing the structures and surfactant needed to breathe. Your little one is gaining weight steadily and developing a more defined face, with eyelashes and a growing sense of taste. Reaching this point is often referred to as the edge of viability, an encouraging step in your pregnancy.
Your body this week
Your growing uterus may bring on heartburn, mild swelling, and occasional dizziness. Around this time your provider will typically recommend a glucose screening test to check for gestational diabetes. You might also notice your skin stretching more, which can feel itchy across the belly.
Tips for week 24
Plan for your glucose screening and ask your provider any questions about what to expect from the test. Eat balanced meals with protein and fiber to help keep your energy and blood sugar steady. Keep moisturizing your belly and rise slowly from sitting or lying down to avoid dizziness.
