Your baby at 27 weeks
This is the final week of your second trimester, and your baby may now hiccup, which you might feel as tiny, rhythmic jumps. The lungs and brain are continuing their important development, and baby's sleeping and waking patterns are becoming more established. Your little one can open and close their eyes and respond to light filtering through your belly.
Your body this week
You may notice leg cramps, especially at night, along with backaches and occasional restless legs. Heartburn, mild swelling, and shortness of breath can continue as your baby grows. Some women begin to feel more tired again as the demands on their body increase heading into the third trimester.
Tips for week 27
Stretch your calves before bed to help prevent nighttime leg cramps, and keep up with calcium and hydration. Rest when you can and ease into a comfortable evening routine to support better sleep. As you approach the third trimester, confirm your upcoming appointment schedule with your provider, since visits often become more frequent.
