Your baby at 5 weeks
This week the neural tube, which becomes your baby's brain and spinal cord, is forming, and the earliest heart cells are beginning to organize. The embryo is about the size of an apple seed and is growing rapidly in these foundational days. Tiny structures that will become major organs are starting to take shape.
Your body this week
Pregnancy hormones are climbing, so you may notice more fatigue, tender or swollen breasts, mild nausea, or a heightened sense of smell. Some people feel many symptoms while others feel almost none, and both are normal. Frequent trips to the bathroom can also begin around now.
Tips for week 5
Keep taking your prenatal vitamin and try to rest when your body asks for it. If nausea is starting, small frequent snacks and staying hydrated can help. This is a good time to confirm your first prenatal appointment and jot down any questions you want to ask.
