Your baby at 6 weeks

Your baby is about the size of a sweet pea, and a flickering heartbeat may be visible on an early ultrasound this week. The neural tube is closing, and small buds that will become arms and legs are beginning to appear. Facial features are also starting their earliest development.

Your body this week

Morning sickness, which can strike at any time of day, often peaks around now along with fatigue and breast tenderness. You might feel more emotional or notice food aversions and cravings. These shifts are driven by rising hormones and are a normal part of early pregnancy.

Tips for week 6

Eat small, bland meals throughout the day and keep crackers nearby if nausea hits hardest in the morning. Stay hydrated and rest as needed, since your body is working hard. If you have not had your first prenatal visit, this is often when many providers like to see you.
