Experiencing Vaginal Itching?

Are you experiencing itchiness in or around your vaginal area? Don't fret! This is likely due to one of the many common causes of vaginal itching or irritation. Most causes of vaginal itchiness are due to an infection and treatable, so you need not worry.

  • Do you have itchiness, inflammation, burning, discharge and/os a fishy odor? These symptoms may mean you have Bacterial vaginosis, which occurs when the normal balance of healthy bacteria is thrown off and instead “bad” bacteria begin growing, caasing an infection.
  • Have pain when you pee or during intercourse or are you experiencing redness, vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, vaginal or vulval inflammation? This may be due to a yeast infection, which is caused by normal vaginal yeast growing at an abnormal rate. This is extremely common infection and most women experience a yeast infection at some point. Pregnancy, intercourse, antibiotics, or a weakened immune system may make you more susceptible to getting one
  • Are you sexually active and experiencing itchiness and other symptoms? The symptoms of STDs range depending on the type, but if you are experiencing abnormal discharge, sores or bumps near your vagina, or itchiness it could be due to an STD, such as chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, ghonorrhea and trichomoniasis.
  • Are you approaching or experiencing menopause? The drop in estrogen associated with menopause can also cause itchiness and irritation
  • Are you breastfeeding? Some women experience itchiness as a result of the vaginal walls thinning while they are breastfeeding
  • Are you using a new or different hygienic, personal or household product? The chemicals in the everyday products you are using may have chemical substances that can irritate your body. It may be helpful to note if the irritation began around the time of using a new cream, condom, laundry detergent or any other product.

If you are facing any of these symptoms, consult your OBGYN or HCP for a diagnosis.
