Ultrasound

2D, 3D, and 4D imaging for monitoring and diagnosis

About Ultrasound

Ultrasound imaging is a safe, non-invasive way to visualize your baby during pregnancy and diagnose gynecological conditions. Garden OB/GYN offers state-of-the-art 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound technology across our locations. From confirming your pregnancy and checking your baby's growth to evaluating pelvic pain and screening for abnormalities, our skilled sonographers and providers deliver clear, accurate results.

What to Expect

During a prenatal ultrasound, you'll lie comfortably while a technician applies gel to your abdomen and uses a transducer to create images of your baby. The procedure is painless and typically takes 20-30 minutes. For gynecological ultrasounds, a transvaginal approach may be used for more detailed imaging of the uterus and ovaries. Your provider will review the results with you and discuss any findings.

Who Is This For?

Pregnant women at various stages of pregnancy for routine monitoring, and women of any age experiencing pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or other gynecological concerns that require imaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ultrasound safe during pregnancy?
Yes, diagnostic ultrasound has been used safely in pregnancy for decades. It uses sound waves, not radiation, to create images.
When will I have my first ultrasound?
Most women have their first ultrasound between 6-8 weeks to confirm the pregnancy and estimate your due date, with a detailed anatomy scan around 18-20 weeks.
What's the difference between 2D, 3D, and 4D?
2D provides flat, cross-sectional images used for medical evaluation. 3D creates still three-dimensional images of your baby. 4D shows real-time 3D movement.
Do I need a full bladder?
For early pregnancy and some pelvic ultrasounds, a full bladder can improve image quality. Your provider will give you specific preparation instructions.
Which ultrasounds will I have during pregnancy and what do they look for?
Most uncomplicated pregnancies include a few key ultrasounds. Around 6-8 weeks, an early scan confirms the pregnancy is in the uterus, checks for a heartbeat, and dates the pregnancy. Between 11 and 13 weeks, a nuchal translucency scan — often paired with bloodwork — screens for chromosomal conditions. The big one is the anatomy scan around 18-20 weeks, where we check the baby's organs, growth, placenta location, and amniotic fluid in detail; this is also when many parents find out the sex. In the third trimester, growth ultrasounds may be added if your provider wants a closer look at size, fluid, or placenta. High-risk pregnancies often get more frequent scans. Schedule online or call (516) 663-6400 to set up your prenatal imaging, and we will sequence everything to your due date.
What is a transvaginal ultrasound and why might I need one for fertility?
A transvaginal ultrasound uses a slim, lubricated probe placed inside the vagina to get a closer, clearer view of the uterus and ovaries than an external scan can provide. For fertility evaluation, it is one of the most useful tools we have: we can count the resting follicles on each ovary (a marker of egg supply), check the lining of the uterus, look for fibroids, polyps, or ovarian cysts, and confirm that ovulation is happening on cycle. It is also used in early pregnancy to confirm location and viability before an abdominal scan would show much. The exam takes about 10-15 minutes and is no more uncomfortable than a routine pelvic exam. Call (516) 663-6400 or schedule online and we can pair the scan with a fertility consultation.
